THE ALASKA HIGHWAY ANIMAL SIGHTING SECTION (Northern British Columbia and southern Yukon Territory): Bison!

Young caribou...

Yukon Territory ho! We have reached Canada's last and most western frontier!

North of 60 deg. latitude, yikes!

Along our journey we stayed in Watson Lake, Yukon, at the historic Air Force Lodge. As stated on their web site, it is "simultaneously the oldest and the newest building in the small northern community of Watson Lake, Yukon. It is a heritage structure that has quickly become one of the most attractive and affordable stops along the Alaska Highway."

The Air Force Lodge is a very welcoming place and used to be the barracks for Royal Canadian Air Force pilots serving in WWII.

Many beautiful flower baskets at the Air Force Lodge.

The interior includes many interesting historical displays....

WWII history ...

Antique furniture owned by the proprietor, Michael, one of the friendliest people you'll meet in Canada! This is an old sewing machine circa 1907, passed down to him from his grandmother in Germany (or was it his great grandmother?).

And an old record player circa 1954.

A lovely painting in our room.

A beautiful mural in Watson Lake, Yukon.
