GEO 265
GIS Practicum
Lab Report Guidelines
OBJECTIVE: The objective of the lab report is for you to summarize
in a clear and concise manner the work that you have done in your lab
exercise. It must be edited and typed (MS Word suggested).
REQUIREMENTS:
- Your lab report should be a 1 to 2 page summary of the lab exercise.
- It must include the following sections:
- Introduction
- The problem to be solved using GIS must be clearly stated
- Methodology
- You must include a brief summary of the data that you used in the exercise. This discussion should include what you know about the data. You should address questions such as the geographic scope of the data, its source, who created it, etc. You will not always be able to answer these specific questions, but provide as much information about the data as possible.
- You must describe the analysis methods that you used in ArcView to solve the problem as stated at the beginning of your report. In addition, a flowchart of your data processing is required to outline the analysis methods. For example:
- Discussion
- You must have a brief discussion of how GIS helped you solve this problem.
- You must have a conclusion that outlines the results of your analysis.
- If the lab handout poses questions about a specific aspect of the lab, answer these questions in the discussion section.
- Map Requirements
-
If a map was produced as part of the exercise, your map must contain all of the basic cartographic elements that we will discuss in class and clearly and effectively communicate the results of your analysis. Maps shall be printed on 8.5 X 11 paper in black and white.
DUE DATES: The lab reports should be handed in at the beginning of the
class period on the due date indicated. You are strongly encouraged to
submit your lab report electronically via the Drop folder\Section 1 or 2 in GEO265 on the \\sci-geo server. That failing, you may also print your report
and hand it in to your TA.
